What to Pack for Your Next Scuba Trip: From Diver Hair Care to Technical Gear

Make sure to pack the best dive hair care product and technical gear for your next scuba trip.
Make sure to pack the best dive hair care product and technical gear for your next scuba trip.

True saltwater hedonists love to maximize their time exploring the ocean.

One of the best ways to do this is scuba diving – you can spend up to an hour beneath the surface soaking up the beautiful sights of coral reefs, kelp forests, and seagrass meadows. Chances are that while you are underwater you will also get to experience some magical encounters with marine life, from fish and octopus to turtles, dolphins and sharks (fun fact: coconut smugglers love our sharky friends!)

But with scuba diving comes making sure you have all the very best gear for every part of the adventure, from the best diver hair care products to the best equipment to keep you breathing underwater.

To help you with your packing list, we’ve put together the top scuba products that you should pack for your next underwater adventure.

1. Diver Hair Care Products

While we adore the sport of scuba diving, there is nothing worse than surfacing and having to deal with the dreaded scuba hair. The extra time in the saltwater means that it is likely your hair will be severely dehydrated and likely have quite a few knots to untangle.

Luckily, our revolutionary scuba diver hair care set is designed to combat exactly that!

The Duo comes with a complete pre and post-hair care set that can become part of your surface interval routine.

Before you start kitting up your tank, spray Feelin Nauti Hair Serum and then secure your hair in a braid or ponytail. This will give your hair an extra layer of protection from the incoming saltwater exposure.

Then, once you surface from your dive and have taken off your scuba gear, get out the Ashore Everything Lotion and spritz generously to your hair and face. This will give both your skin and hair an added layer of hydration and act as a leave-in conditioner for your hair as well.

2. Technical Dive Gear

Of course, you also want to make sure that you have the right technical gear that lets you go scuba diving as well! While you can always rent your scuba gear from your local dive center, it is always nice to have at least a few pieces of scuba gear with you that you are confident and comfortable with. This  includes:

Regulator: the magic of breathing underwater comes from your regulator. It is your source of air and literal life source while scuba diving. Each regulator comes with different nuances, but in general you want one that is light, comfortable, and fits your mouth and jawline.

Dive Computer: a dive computer is not only essential for monitoring your dive, but it is a great way to keep a journal of your dive adventures as well. Many new dive computers will automatically log your dives into an app, including the GPS location of the dive site, and  your diving stats like bottom time and depth and come with an area for you to add any additional notes in as well.

Mask and Snorkel: scuba masks come in all different shapes and sizes, which is why it is always nice to have your own that you know will fit your face perfectly (no one wants to deal with a leaky mask!). Plus, bringing your own mask and snorkel will mean that you can go for your own freediving adventures when you are not diving.

3. Reusable Water Bottles

Not only is it important to bring dive hair care products that keep your skin and hair hydrated, but you will also want to bring a water bottle to ensure you drink enough fluids on your travel.  If possible, we always recommend a plastic-free water bottle to risk your own consumption of microplastics as well. The best water bottles for dive trips are aluminum and have a long life span.

Happy scuba divers are hydrated scuba divers!

4. Reef Safe Sunscreen

You’ve packed your diver hair care products that are designed to protect coral reefs, so make sure you pack sunscreen that is designed to do the same as well.

There are a lot of sunscreens that unfortunately have harmful ingredients to the ocean, so make sure to do your research in finding a brand that is verified as being reef safe by looking at the ingredients list on the label and making sure you do not see oxybenzone or octinoxate.

As divers, we love exploring coral reefs. So let’s make sure to bring products that ensure we can keep them healthy, whether it's diver hair care products or sunscreen.
